09:26 pm - Chinese Democracy So I'm currently listening to Chinese Democracy. I don't know if this is shameful or not, but I've had a striking interest in this album for a long time. I remember in the early days of my internet life of surfing obsession, believing that I had gotten a song that would be on this album and how this has repeated numerous times over the years. And the thing is, I don't know if I really care that much about Axl Rose or Guns N' Roses. Don't get me wrong. I really liked this band when I was a very young kid, and I find that personally interesting that I listened to Appetite for Destruction (thanks largely to my older siblings) and remember all of the epic songs from Illusions when I was wasn't even a teen. But at this point, it's been a long time since then, and I have little expectations for this album. It's surreal that it's even here. Anyway, everyone should listen to it and read Chuck Klosterman's review.
10:56 pm - Tomorrow No Parents are recording with Lynn Bridges in Athens, AL tomorrow. Without consciously doing it, I've been listening to some of his recordings for most of the day.
This morning, I listened to Thomas Function's Celebration, while driving from Trussville and back, which I downloaded for an entirely different reason. I just noticed they were an Alabama band that has something out on Fat Possum Records).
Right now, I'm listening to one of the albums he did with Devendra Banhart -- Rejoicing in the Hands. This is actually the first time I've really given him (or freak folk) a proper listen. Actually, I'm not sure who else is doing freak folk or what it exactly means. So maybe I have listened to freak folk before b/c the music sounds familiar and some of the weird vocal stuff does remind me of some bands I've listened to lately, but I guess I haven't heard them together, exclusively.
Well, I'm really excited about recording this weekend. I still need to come up with part for one song. That shouldn't be too tough, but I don't have a lot of ideas coming to mind. I really want to do something that stands out. Oh yeah, I also need to learn how to play another part, which may be the most complicated thing I've ever played on keyboard. That does sound a little tough, but I have time, and will be able to record it as soon as I have it down.
08:18 am - Big Dog Robot Check out this quadruped robot called BigDog being developed by Boston Dynamics. Gizmodo says, "it's so stunning it's spooky." I agree!
07:07 am - Digg this article! I'm trying to do an experiment with the power of social news sites.
With the Dexateens releasing recently their album online for free, I thought this would be a good chance to see if I could get an article to reach the front page of the Digg website.
So everyone with a Digg account, please digg this!
Here's more food for thought. Although this doesn't account for what percentage of the market bottled water is taking away from soda and other beverages. It's not like bottled water is only competing with tap water. People must be thinking, how could something as good as water be so bad? I thought I was doing good! Also, I think they meant 3 million/billion/trillion tons of CO2.
10:32 am - R. Kelly - Real Talk Below you will find R. Kelly's latest video. The song is delivered in the same "Trapped in the Closet" style we've all come to love. It's bizarre throughout, and it gets weirder near the end.
12:37 pm - 120 Minutes I found this website that lists every episode of 120 Minutes with the videos that were played, musical performances, guest hosts, etc. It's pretty nifty if you are trying to recall some videos you remember watching on the show.
Here are some of the most memorable ones for me from 1995-96. The first one is the video I was originally looking to find, and how I came across the previously mentioned site.
Ammonia - "Drugs"
Hayden - "As Bad As They Seem"
For Squirrels - "Mighty KC"
Primitive Radio Gods - "Standing Outside a Broken Phonebooth With Money in My Hand"
